PPDA (High Press)

Defensive Intensity

What it is

Passes allowed to the opponent per defensive action. Low PPDA = very intense pressing. Reference: <7 = Very high press | 7-10 = Medium | >10 = Low block.

Formula

PPDA = Passes allowed to opponent / Own defensive actions

Real Example

Liverpool (Klopp era): average PPDA 6.8 → Very intense pressing in the opponent's half.

When to Use

Teams with low PPDA generate more forced errors and counter-attacks; indicates the team's tactical style.
